Sati is trying with all her might to not cackle. These two were honestly the most hilarious pair and she was loving it. Every little thing that was said or done just made her wicked little brain tick as she thought of impossible ways to mess with them both. It was certainly hard to keep the smirk from her lips, but at least it was dark and she had her head down low.

"N-no need to be sorry."  Khaa frowns a moment, "I didn't mean it in a negative way... So, I suppose, I should apologise for the way I said it."  The egyptian is most certainly not good at this, and how he ever managed to raise Akoren or even do his job properly was starting to become a mystery! He was never this awkward or unsure, and it annoyed him that he felt like this; of course, made worse by Sati's little comments or occasional giggle. And he knew she was trying not to laugh right now. He just knew.

Still, he tries not to move around now that they are all settled enough for sleep, and a small smile hidden in the darkness tugs at his lips at the little comment. He had said that every night to Akoren, even long after she was grown, and it gave him comfort in a way he hadn't expected.

"la bas , 'ana huna."  The strange words come out in Khaa's deep yet soft with sleep tone as a dim glow begins to fill their little spot, the gold disc above the man's antlers offering its gentle warmth and comfort. Sati, too, has woken and is sitting upright, ears alert in case it had been something around them that had startled Nuage awake. Ruby gaze rests upon the younger man, sleepy yet concerned, "You okay?"

“You’re okay,” he mutters to himself a second time, but finds that it is really hard to lower his body back onto the ground. Calm down, you fool, he nags mentally, but his whispered words are more shaky and unsure. When he had startled awake, Nuage had partially pushed himself up as he had been gasping for breath. Still the bay and blue male is ready to bold, but Khaa’s voice, soft yet deep and full of sleep, is so comforting and reassuring that he manages to lower himself back on the ground.

The disc lights their resting spot. In the dim glow Nuage blinks his eyes as he glances at Khaa. He finds himself looking away when sapphire meets ruby, flustered. With the disc lighting the area around them, Nuage can see there is no water with his own eyes, and that, even though his own hide is soaked, Khaa and Sati are both dry. No water, no sea, Nuage realises as a violent shiver runs down his spine. Nevertheless, the memory is vivid enough to make him tremble. He does not realise that he had scooted somewhat closer towards Khaa, instincts kicking in to seek support and comfort.

His ears flicker around a few times, and his eyes check to make sure there really is no water around them. A breath he didn’t know he is holding escapes past the barrier of his pale lips. “I.. the water..” he whispers, not able to control the tremble that comes with voicing out his memories. Swallowing the lump in his throat, Nuage glances at Khaa, before eyeing the ground in between them. “.. Just a bad dream..”. Not a dream, but a memory. One Nuage would rather put back in the forgotten corner of his mind.

Again he glances through his lashes to look at Khaa, offering an apologetic smile before shrugging, like he is saying that it is no big deal. “I’m sorry.. for waking you..” he murmurs as his ears flick back uncertainly. Then his gaze finds Sati, and hopes that she understands the apology he silently gives her, before glancing shyly at Khaa and then the ground again.

It becomes quite clear as the younger male lowers himself back down that something within his mind had startled him awake. Khaa knew what that was like, more than he would care to admit, and instinctively his mummified tail moves around him a little more tightly. He watches Nuage in the warm light and can see him practically glittering in sweat, and a concerned look deepens on his face. He sees the shiver, too, and passes a glance over at Sati who is stretching herself after getting up.

"It's alright... There's nothing to be afraid of. You're safe. I promise." Khaa offers smoothly. The way Nuage looks at him but then quickly looks away keeps making him want to ask why, but now was not the time. He was far too shaken. "Don't be sorry. There's nothing to be sorry for."  Sati purrs as she walks over towards them, content with her stretching. She looks up at Nuage with a kind expression, even smiling a little, and much to Khaa's surprise, she walked closer to them and settled herself in front of Nuage.

At his chest she sits and presses her head against him, purring loudly. Certainly louder than Khaa had ever heard her before. The man watches his feline friend in a sort of sleep-dazed amazement, but he soon smiles ever so slightly, and shuffles himself over just that little bit more towards Nuage, leaving practically no gap between them.

"We'll stay awake with you, till you sleep." He speaks softly, and though the light dims a little, the disc continues to emanate a very soft gentle light that is just enough to encircle them. Something about the other made Khaa want to protect him, and though he wasn't sure what it was, he wasn't going to ignore it. Besides, there must be something about him to have Sati acting in such a way that had him rather curious. What was on the caracal's mind, he couldn't help but wonder.

His dream had pulled up the dark memories from the back of his mind, turning his exhausted slumber into a nightmare. When Nuage had woken up on the beach, he had faintly remembered the water and the darkness. His uncertainty of his unknown surroundings and the Khaa and Sati’s arrival had helped him push it to the back of his mind for the time being. His body aches, another reminder of his struggle for air, but the flashing images behind closed lids are so much more vivid and vibrant. Too much for Nuage’s liking. And it has terrified him enough that he is not yet ready to close his eyes and continue to rest.

So instead his eyes follow Sati as she stands up and stretches, wondering how she was able to even make stretches look graceful. When Khaa speaks his ear turns in the tall man’s direction, but it takes a while before his gaze follows. Nuage manages to nod ever so slightly, trying to calm his racing heart. “Thank you,” he murmurs softly, not sure how else he could show his appreciation for the soothing words. But heck, just listening to Khaa’s deep sexy voice would distract him. Nuage finds himself looking at Sati again, and even manages to smile faintly. They’re too kind.

Nuage is sure that his eyes widen with each step Sati takes in his direction. The uncertainty radiates of him as she settles right in front of him, against him even. Unable to understand what the caracal is doing, his blue eyes peek through his lashes up at Khaa for a few moments, before he bends his neck to lightly touch the purring cat on her back, snorting somewhat uncomfortable. While Nuage is focussed on Sati, he does not notice Khaa moving right way, not until the Egyptian man is pressed close to his side. One could practically see him thinking for a moment, and Nuage closes his eyes in order to sort his thoughts, only to see the water surrounding him once more. With a gasp he opens them, and shakes head gently to get rid of the image.

“I.. I’m not sure.. if I can..” he whispers as he stares into the darkness. He glances at the taller man, shivering as he presses closer to his two companions. Sati purrs against his chest, he can feel the vibrations, finding himself focussing on it. Bending his neck, he rest his head, but sapphire eyes do not close. Instead he stares on in the distance, trying to ignore the darkness that lures at the back of his mind and instead focus on the presence of both Sati and Khaa. Before long, he’s dozing, lulled to sleep by the purr and safely tucked in.

It was easy for Khaa to say that Nuage was safe; he wasn't in the other's head. He could sympathise with the feelings of being forced to relive a horrible experience repeatedly in one's dreams, but he didn't know how to show it, let alone to vocalise it appropriately. Which was, in all honestly, rather ironic considering he would often care for women that had no one else to care for them. But, then again, that was a long time ago now, so much so that it was almost as if it had been nothing but a dream once upon a time.

Sati settles herself properly, laying down but still keeping herself pressed against Nuage so he can feel her purrs. Khaa watches, intrigued, with the hint of a warm smile on his lips. He tilts his head, gaze upon the man beside him, as he hears the small gasp and his quiet words. "It's ok if you can't. We'll still be here. " He assures, feeling Nuage press in.

Precious. Most definitely.

Khaa carefully leans his head ever so slightly against Nuage's neck, and he can swear he can feel Sati's purring through him. It's a strange feeling, for certain, but not at all unpleasant, and his little smile grows just a bit more. Eventually, Sati's purring eases, and all that's left amongst the sounds of the night are those of Nuage and Sati sleeping. It is a truly peaceful, perfect moment that fills the Egyptian man with such wholesome warmth, he could swear that Hathor herself had wrapped her hand around his heart.

His own eyes finally close, smile still tugging at his lips.

With the caracal comfortably settled against his chest and offering all she has to help him relax, the last of Nuage’s hesitance towards her presence disappears. She is not the first animal companion he had met, she is, however, the first companion that he had heard talking. Not to forget to mention that a feline companion is something entirely else than an avian one, and yet, right now, Nuage could not have felt safer. Khaa is tightly tucked against his side, offering him warmth, like Sati against his chest. The cloth miraculously still covers most of his back, shielding his somewhat damp hide from the night chill.

Nuage tilts his horned head slightly, and his ears twitch at the sound of Khaa’s deep voice. He just looks at the taller man for a moment, wondering why, but soon decides to push that thought away. For now, it’s a nice thing to believe. The blue and bay male nods slightly, a small shy smile tugging at the corners of his lips, but the horrors from his nightmare still very evident in his eyes.

The light coming from the disc is just enough to brighten their little circle, around them the darkness prevails. He can see just enough to stare away, watching the grass sway gently in the breeze, while he tries to ignore the swaying feeling he had felt when the waves had tossed him around. Focussing on Sati’s purr instead, it’s steady rhythm calming. She constantly reminds him she is there, that he isn’t alone and that he isn’t drowning.

Surprisingly enough he is dozing soon, and he is barely aware of Khaa’s head against his neck. Nevertheless, he presses into it on instinct, seeking the contact that calms him. Like that Nuage falls asleep, and this time his dreams are calm and peaceful. A deep slumber that both his mind and body need to heal from that day’s traumatizing experiences.

The sun warms his back, but Nuage is still out. He’s comfortably tucked between two warm bodies, and it has been too long since he had last felt this sheltered and cared for. The bay and blue stallion has been on his own for quite a while, without anybody to share his hardships. He had travelled the land with his broken heart, not able to share the burden, and fleeing from that what had hurt him most. So unconsciously he holds on to the pleasant feeling, not yet ready to wake up.

Khaa's mind wandered as he slept, returning home to a time when things were still peaceful and calm. Seeing Ma'at and aiding her in her duties alongside her other priests and priestesses; seeing Akoren in her youth, being the little troublemaker full of energy, and watching her grow into the young woman she was the last he saw her, still full of that same mischief, only much more refined once she was taken under Serqet's wing - er, tail. The beloved feelings he held for those important to him and his homeland filling him with such warmth that it practically radiated off of him as he slept, keeping those in his company wrapped in said warmth as well like a protective blanket.

As was typical of him, he awoke with dawn. He always enjoyed watching the sunrise, as it was proof that Ra had been successful in keeping the demon Apophis at bay for another night, and they were safe from being devoured - for now. Though Khaa had to wonder, was this the same sun? Did Apophis exist in this place, in this time? It was interesting food for thought, at the very least, but not something he was exactly concerned over. Rather, his immediate concerns were directed towards his present company. Sati was still dozing, curled in a ball and still settled in front of Nuage. She wasn't as early a riser as he, and for that, in this very moment, he was glad for.

It also allowed him to truly see Nuage; he was certainly a sight to see at night, with how parts of him would glow, but he was just as breathtaking to see as the sun began to beam down upon them. Khaa didn't want to wake him, not yet. He deserved to wake on his own and cling to as much sleep as he wished - though perhaps that was a little selfish of Khaa, as it really meant that he could continue to observe the other in unrestrained adoration.

He looked so peaceful...

"You're going to wake him if you keep staring at him like that." Sati's voice was quiet, barely above a whisper, as her bright blue eyes stare up at Khaa - she hadn't moved, asides from uncurl herself to look at him. "I-I was doing no such thing!" Khaa objects with a soft snort and turning away of his head, as if to look back at the rising sun. "Suuurreeee. Keep tellin' yourself that. But I saw the way you were looking at him." She presses, tone teasing, daring to get louder as if threatening to wake Nuage, "Hush, you will wake him." Khaa quickly frowns down at her, but she's already turned to preoccupy herself wih a morning grooming session.

The rest of the night he sleeps mostly dreamless, and when he dreams, it is not about the hardships in life. He does not dream of Narcissus, and neither of Florian and Rani. His dreams bring Nuage even further back in time. He dreams of the night sky, which has always interested him. Part of his linage comes from the stars and it is not for nothing that his mother had lovingly called him her little stargazer. It is, after all, where his father came from. Nuage had spent hours staring up at the sky, fantasizing what it would be like, and tonight, in his dreams, he lives one of his childhood fantasies, hopping from one cloud to the next.

At one point his cloud hopping dream morphs into a dream that is too good to be true. The blue and bay male dreams about meeting a stranger. A tall, handsome stranger with a voice so deep. While still asleep, a smile tugs on the corner of his lips and he shudders lightly as a jolt runs down his spine. In his dream he joins the stranger and the male’s companion, travelling from the sandy shores to lush green fields. Starting to stir a little, his dream become more hazy at that point, and Nuage desperately tries to cling to it. It is a reality that offers so much more than his life had, and he is desperate to hold on to the little fantasy a little while longer.

Whispered voices had caused his stirring. Casing after his dream, Nuage had paid them little attention, but the further he runs, the further the dream slips from his grasp. Soft, distressed noises slip from his lips, showing the intensity of his dream. His ears start twitching, and slowly Nuage becomes more aware of his surroundings. The voices, they are real and not the product of his imagination.

Khaa, and Sati, they are real. And here with him.

Sapphire eyes blink, careful to not be blinded by the sun hovering just a bit above the horizon. His surroundings slowly become clear. He’s laying down in a comfortable little spot, one that is rather crowded. The confusion shows clearly on his features for a moment. Sati is right against his chest, curled up tightly. Beside him, Khaa’s bigger body rests directly against his own, keeping him warm and secure. What? “You.. you are real..” he mumbles, still a tad bit confused as his dreams are still laced with reality.

Little by little the events of last night start to return to him, and the more Nuage remembers, the more flustered he becomes. His dream had not been a dream, but reality. By sitting up he creates a little bit of breathing space between his and Khaa’s side, his neck curving as his gaze is down flustered. “I.. I’m sorry,” he murmurs, unable to stop the shiver that runs down his spine at the memory of last night’s nightmare. Nuage is almost sure he can taste the salt on his tongue. “I hope… I didn’t keep you up.. long?”

Khaa's attention turns to Nuage as he hears the other's voice, well, specifically, his words. Real? "Good morning to you too," He gives a gentle chuckle as he watches Nuage begin to wake up, including how he becomes a little flustered and shuffles himself to sit up. Sati grins, watching the pair with big blue eyes, before she rolls over, stretches out again, and gets up to disappear into the tall grass.

Without knowing, Khaa releases the breath he'd been holding and sighs softly once she's gone. He knows better than to think she can't hear them still, however, but it's still nice to have a moment of her not staring at them both. "No need to worry. You seemed to sleep much more soundly, I'm glad." He offers a reassuring response before he gets himself to his feet and does a bit of a stretch himself. As he does so, he leans back so his forelegs are straight and his neck is outstretched with them, but he holds this and turns his head enough to look at Nuage.

"We were going to explore a bit today, see what is out there. You're most welcome to join us if you wish. You would be welcomed company." Well, that was a little flirtatious than he intended, but it was too late now to take back that honey-laced tone. Instead, he rolls with it and gives a warming smile as he straightens up. From here he has a better view of Nuage, far better than he had whilst laying beside him, and can't help but stare in appreciation of how unique he appears. His markings, in particular, were incredibly striking.

"Khaa, you're staring again."  Sati's voice chimes back into the world as she reappears, and she watches as Khaa's features take a sudden look of indignation and embarrassment, all the while licking a front paw and cleaning her face.

Still somewhat disoriented he blinks his sleepy and confused eyes at Khaa, who greets him with soft laughter and greeting words. Oh, right. Realisation hits hard, he had just muttered words about Khaa being real, instead of properly greeting his two guardians. “Ah, yes,” he mumbles with a slight shake of his head as his eyes roam to Sati and then back to Khaa. “Good morning..” Waking up definitely could not get more awkward than this. Or could it?

Baby blues focus on Sati as she retreats into the tall grass, of to do whatever a feline would do in the morning. He does not know her like Khaa does, and when she leaves his sight, he does not realise how far her senses reach. The ear closest to Khaa turns in the Egyptian man’s direction, his eyes watching the grass where Sati disappeared into still flustered. “I did,” he agrees softly, pausing as his eyes wander to Khaa. “No more nightmares,” he adds with a small smile, one of which Nuage hopes shows his gratitude.

Their resting place for the night becomes less crowded when Khaa pushes himself up, allowing Nuage to stretch himself a little. Bending his neck he glances behind him, and from there inspects their surroundings. Last night he hadn’t had much eye for it. It had bene pretty dark too. It’s cosy, and tucked away from the view. And Nuage does not spot water anywhere near them. The realisation makes him release the breath he didn’t know he was holding.

Khaa’s voice snaps him out of his thoughts. He does not know what flusters him more, the fact that he had been momentarily distracted, or the invitation. Did he hear that right? Nuage looks up at Khaa from his position on the ground, but once again does not hold the man’s gaze long. “You mean…?” Nuage does not finish, eyeing the ground flustered. “You sure?” When he glances up at Khaa, the sparkle of hope that had been audible in his voice, shows in his eyes too.

Sati’s voice and re-appearance makes him jolt up a bit, his head snapping in her direction as his ear flick back a little because of the surprise. He kinda, sort of, had forgotten about her presence. You fool. Nuage looks everywhere except at Khaa when he hurriedly pushes himself up from the ground, shaking and stretching his muscles quicker than he probably should have. His body had not yet forgotten the sea, and his aching muscles are a constant reminder of a very unhappy and unpleasant memory.

He looks everywhere but at Khaa, or Sati for that matter. Distracting himself by rubbing his head along his front leg he gives himself the excuse not to. He is flustered beyond what he believed is possible, and he knows that the flush is clearly visible on his face. “So..” he tries to start, having to clear his throat before able to continue. “.. where did you… plan on going?”

Yes, waking up could clearly get more awkward than he had thought.
