Back here again – wandering along the sandy shore of the beach of his past. There were memories ingrained into every speck of sand that crunched like autumn leaves under his hooves.  He had run under this sky – run under it when it was black and desolate, when the Voyd had stretched out his great power and ripped the sun from their sky. Ripped the stars from their place and scattered all hope to the wind. He had run under it when the gods restored the balance, when Solis had been torn in a mighty blast of light and suddenly the world was set afire once more. It had been the place where Salem had flourished and been broken all at once.

He had met Tanith on this beach. He had lost Cyrus here.

Not on this beach, Cyrus had been massacred in a place that no longer existed. His bones had decayed and been ground to dust and that dust had been obliterated by Sol. But this place – Liridon – it would always be a part of him, a part of Cyrus. Just like it was a part of Entia and Lucian.

He should have gone to Ilir, and secretly there was a small part of his heart that longed to stand along the rocky cliff edge of his old home and look out across the ocean, the cold moorland and pine forests at his back and nothing but a vast open horizon to feast his eyes. Instead he decides to stay here, along the calmer reaches of the rolling waves. The Beach was a place for newcomers – and although he was not a newcomer he could be classed as new again. Reborn.

Overhead Tivus calls, circling, white wings stretched out to catch the warm updrafts, the wind currents carrying him over the ocean. Salem lifts his eyes to watch, and then, gently: Tivus. It is a whisper, spoken mind to mind with his bonded creature, and Tivus does not need ears to hear the word. Another cry, and he descends, landing as carefully as he can on Salem’s neck, sharp claws catching his thick mane.

“This is it” Salem shuts his eyes, for a moment he is content,

Are we taking a tour? Tivus asks, and Salem lifts his head towards the bird, who perches almost grumpily in the nearest tree. It is not like Tivus to be so snarky, usually the young kite is quite relaxed - jovial when Salem wasn't, alert when Salem couldn't be. It was down to Tivus's up beat nature that Salem could claim he had changed at all from the dark and dreary youth he had been.  “A tour?” Salem arches a brow over a bright azure eye, the corners of his lips quirking, pushing back a tempting smile. Now was not the time to tease his friend - after all it was at Salem's insistence that they come here, back to his place of birth.

It was Lucian's fault really, his father had mentioned something vague about Liridon and the best time of his life - probably thinking about Entia and Emergency, and Tranquilizer, before disappearing entirely. Salem had guessed that he would return here, and he had been correct. Tivus had seen Lucian heading towards Ilir, but Salem had not wanted to follow his father right away, and after the beach he had wandered his way towards the lake instead.  It's just I thought you would have gone back to Ilir after seeing Entia, Tivus shuffled his wings. He was tired, he had been flying all day, and there had been a few times Salem had used him to warg and see the land. Warging always took a lot out of Tivus, almost more than it did out of Salem. It must take a lot of trust, to give up ones control.

“No, I just want to see how things have changed. You can take a nap, if you want.” Salem shrugs his shoulders, “I don't need you right now, and I promise not to leave without you.” The sun was starting to slowly drift down anyway, another hour and it would have sunk beneath the horizon. I'll find you even if you do, the bird reminds him, and Salem let's out a bark of laughter, before setting off towards the edge of the lake. He does not wander all the way in, only to just above his fetlock, but the water is so cool that he sighs, his eyes fluttering shut for a moment. He never thought coming home would feel so...good.
